Sid the Sloth

I know I know. Weird that I'm blogging BEFORE 9:00 pm haha but I have a busy day ahead of me and I have a few minutes so here I am.

Well... today was my last day at Sam's Club! I am officially done there and I am so excited but I will definately miss a ton of the people from there, not all of them, but definately a good deal of them. I have made many wonderful friendships there and I am so grateful for that. As much as I don't like working for the Wal-Mart Corporation, I do have to say that I am very grateful to it for keeping me on my feet for a while and for helping meet all of my great friends like, Kenz, Chris Crane, Cody (especially this one :D) Jarrah, Ashley M., Ashley N., Peggy-Lou, Bon Bons (Bonnie), Ann and many others! That is probably only the one good thing about working there.

Last night was my last night working with COS Ann... and so she had a little surprise for me hehe. Preface story for this story first though-

One day my fourth grade teacher and her husband and girls came through my line. She was asking me about dental assisting school and my getting my hygiene when all of a sudden her youngest daughter pipes up and says, "I've always wanted to be a dentist for sloths!" It was sooooo funny! So cute too! Anyways, I had to tell Ann this story after they left because she would greatly appreciate it hehe! So I'm telling her and while I'm telling her I'm thinking in my head, do sloths even have teeth? So I ask Ann. HAHAHA! She looks at me and starts laughing and says, "Well Sid does." And I'm thinking, who the heck is Sid? And I guess I had a stumped look on my face because she goes, "From Ice Age...?" And I start laughing! hahahahaha! Classic Shelby blonde moment right there! Didn't even think of Sid. So it's always been our inside joke about sloths dentists :D Anways, back to the other story...
So last night, I went and did a go back for Ann and when I got back up all the cashiers were standing around waiting for something to do. So I go up to Ann and I ask, "Do you need anything else done while it's slow?" She says, "How about you open up for a few minutes." I started laughing and she was like, "No seriously. How about opening up?"
"haha really? While it's this slow?"
"Yeah I think we may be coming to a rush here in a few minutes." haha ok. Logical enough reason. I didn't argue haha so I go and open my sign and while I'm bringing my arm down, clumsy me, I hit my elbow on the register and I hit it just right so that it hit my nerve in my elbow. I was having a fit and laughing with Ann. I walk around to the register because someone started to come into my line and I'm still standing there holding my arm turned around looking at Ann and laughing. Then I'm thinking, why is she standing right behind me? I already opened up. Then I don't think about it anymore. Took the people like 5 minutes to give me their membership card and I notice even after that that she's still standing there. hahaha... um ok? I turn around to start ringing them up and this is what I found on my register...

THAT'S WHY SHE WAS STANDING THERE! She was totally waiting for me to see it and it took me literally like 10 minutes to see that it was there! I busted a gut! She was busting a gut! It was so funny! I will miss Ann and all of our inside jokes! haha! I told her I was going to frame this and keep it on my wall and then everyday before I went to the dental office I would remember that sloths do in fact have teeth... now onto human teeth!

Oh, other funny story for the preface story... When Ann went home and told her husband our story (because he too would have appreciated it) he looked at her and said, "You thought of Ice Age and Sid before you even thought of animal planet or national geopgraphic?" HAHAHAHAHA! I wouldn't have known it any other way then Ice Age, Ann knew that haha! ;D Love it!

Here's the most recent page for Cody's scrapbook:

It's his farewell page. Now I'm at a crossroads. I have to wait to get more pictures of him now to scrapbook anymore hehe :D

Tomorrow!

My first day at my new job is tomorrow! Granted it's only half a day and more considered a training thing haha but I'm so excited! Then it's off to lunch with my Mom, Dad, Grandma Stringfellow, and my aunt Barbara and cousin Jenny who have come to visit from Arkansas! :D Then it's off to my second to last day at Sam's Club! HALLELUJAH!

Here's the fourth installment for Cody's mission scrapbook...

It's not exactly my favorite page but it was an experiment so I can't complain too much haha! Plus the buttons are SO not where I wanted them but I messed that side of the line up so I had to cover it up with something so that it didn't look RITARDED. haha! I'm so excited to get more and more pictures from him. Ones that have stories and ones that I can give titles to and write a little something about. This one is just two of his pre mission pics... so I couldn't really do much with them but I'm excited to get more and more from him! :D

Job Results and Cody Update

Cody update:
I got an email from him today! I love getting emails from him, even though they are forwarded to me by his dad because he can't directly email me anymore haha but I still love getting them. He's told me that while being in Canelones, he's learned the lessons of patience and obedience. He said, "...obedience is key on a mission i have discovered. Without it we are unable to do the work that the lord has put in front of us to do for him." Oh what a cute, inspirational missionary! :D I'm glad that he's learning a lot out there, and I'm grateful for his companion trainer, Elder Gormus, who has helped teach him a lot. Cody will be a great trainer companion one day, all with the help of Elder Gormus and also with the help of his other companions.

I decided that I am going to make Cody a mission scrapbook (hehe!) with all of his mission pictures that he sends me so that he can look at them later in life and remember lots of memories about his mission. I made the first page today.

It's really simple, but I figured it doesn't need to be too elaborate, at least right now. The pictures are pictures that his mission president in Montevideo sent to Shawn who sent them to me. The lettering in the top right hand corner is the letter that the Da Silva's emailed with the pictures. I still need to make farewell pages for it. That is the next project.

Job update:
I GOT THE ASSISTING JOB! YAY! Oh my goodness! I am so excited! I had butterflies swimming around in my stomach all weekend because I was so nervous about it. (hahaha! Swimming butterflies? Don't ask. :D) Anyways, I start training Friday morning before work, and then I will work Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays with alternating Fridays. SOO EXCITED! Goodbye Sam's Club! But thanks for keeping my on my feet for a little while!

Food, Interview and Other Nonsense

Oh my goodness! I am so excited! Tomorrow I have an interview with College Dental Clinic, which is the clinic that I worked with while going to school. One of their assistants is leaving to get her hygiene, which I will eventually do as well, and so they've asked me to go in and do a working interview with them. I'm a little nervous because I haven't done asssiting since December haha! But I know that once I get going it will come back to me. I'm reviewing my book and stuff too hehe I think I might worry a little too much ;D But this will give me my years experience that every other dental clinic wants. I'm planning to still go to school and get my pre-reqs while I'm working there. Hopefully it all works out well! I hope I get it because I'm getting tired and too stressed out over Sam's Club.

I don't know if i ever told you about my positive month... haha well Ann, my COS supervisor at Sam's Club that I absolutely love!, challenged me last month to do a month of positivity. She did it in March simply because she wanted to try to be more enthusiastic about things and have a positive outlook on things. She challenged me to do it in April. I did well, except for like the last two weeks, in which she told me I could bag it and start over again in May. She's doing it with me this month. I've done super well so far! I did have a little break down last night but I got over it quickly and back on track. I challenge everyone to have a positive month! I've noticed a little difference in the way things are going in my life, and I'm sure the better I get at it the better things will get and the more that I will notice. I don't wanna be annoyingly positive, because obviously everyone has those days where it just isn't cutting it, but try it. See how you do.

I've also made another decision haha. I've been wanting to work on some church related things... like reading my scriptures better and praying and such. I'm raising the bar for myself I guess you could say. Actually I'm just working on being a better person spiritually which I know will help me temporally. I decided that I wanted to work on one specific principle every month. This month I'm going to do scripture study. I want to read my scriptures every day at least once, if not twice. I'm gonna try to incorporate prayer in there as much as I can to get used to it but right now my focus is on the scriptures. I'll see how it goes too :)

Do you wanna know what sounds super super yummy right now? The Turkey Bacon Avocado sandwich from Kneaders. MMMM!

stRess!

Well... it's true. I'm super stressed. About tons of stuff.

1) I feel like I'm getting kicked out of my bathroom all the time. Don't get me wrong I love my brother but all of his stuff explodes all over, it's everywhere. The only things that belong to me in the bathroom is my shampoo and razor in the shower and my toothbrush and toothpaste. Everything else has been moved to the hall closet. Ugh. I had to shower in my parents shower today because he was supposed to be coming home from work the same time that I was gonna shower. I was out 10 minutes later and he still wasn't home.

2) Work. I can't take Sam's Club anymore. I know I've said this before but it's true this time, I'm done playing their games. I can't take it anymore. College Dental Clinic, I hope your serious about me going in for a working interview and offering me Emily's assistant postition because I'm going to call you and ask. Because I need out of Sam's and pronto!

3) School. I don't even know why I'm stressed about this because it hasn't even started yet but I am. :(

4) My sister.

5) I miss Cody... and I have a lot this week! haha but I'm so grateful for his sister Holly and his parents for still being there for me. When I need to talk about something that maybe my parents wouldn't understand or something that I would tell Cody I usually tell Holly and Julie and Shawn. Well sometimes Julie and Shawn but you know what I mean. I'm grateful for my other friends too.

I'm grateful for the church and what a blessing it's been in my life. I've been trying to sort somethings out and the gospel has been helping me. I'm grateful for the power of the atonement, the power of prayer, scripture study, family, priesthood, and many other things.

I want to pick my eyeballs outta my head still though. Ugh. :0(

Chris Crane turns 22!

One of my friend's, Chris, birthday was on Wednesday, the 15th. Kenz and I decided we wanted to do something special for him, because he said no one really remembered his birthday. We decided to bake him a cake, heart attack his car, and then take him to dinner. On the night before, we made him a sweet awesome Batman cake (Batman's his favorite super hero) and then we threw foil and paper shreds, balloons, cut out hearts and random candy in his car. Then the night of his birthday we kidnapped him and took him to dinner.. which ended up being Del Taco because that's where he chose. It was so much fun!!!! ... here's pictures ...

Chris' Batman Cake

Me and Kenz posing with our masterpiece.

Kenz and her Laffy Taffy Boogers.

Chris laughing after we revealed his cake to him.

Aaahhhh... good times. Good times.

Make Sure Your Milk Isn't Leakin'...

Today while at work, this lady came through my line and asked if I wanted to hear the funny for the day. Always up for a laugh in the middle of my shift... I said, "Sure! Lay it on me!" She continued with her story...

She said she was back by the coolers where the milk and eggs are, and she said she looked over and noticed that this elderly lady's milk in her cart was leaking. She could tell because of the milk puddle underneath the lady's cart that kept pilin' up. She wanted to let the elderly woman know so that when she got to the front she wouldn't wonder why one of her milk carton's was empty. She said she went up to the woman and said to her, "Ma'm, I just wanted to let you know that your milk is leakin'." She then said that her daughter, who was with her, gave her a funny look and realized what her daughter was thinking...................... She then decided she probably should have worded it differently... and she told me, "I felt quite stupid after saying that! I didn't mean for it to come across that way! I just wanted to let her know that her milk was leakin' from her carton!" While all three of us were laughing at the innocent comment, her daughter asked if the woman thought what she had. She said, "Well she didn't give me a funny look or anything, so I guess not. She just said, 'Oh it is? Oh thank you!' and looked in her cart... thank goodness!" Now honestly... I wouldn't have noticed either if I was the older woman. But it's acutally kinda funny. Now I know it's definately not a knee slapper, but it's one of those things that can give you a smile and a little chuckle because I know it did me. So ladies, please make sure your milk isn't leakin'! Your milk in your shopping carts, crazy heads!

Ribbon Bows, Twilight and the Flower Girl

Ok... so I'm a week late for this but... TWILIGHT CAME OUT ON VIDEO LAST SATURDAY! Finally! The day that I have been waiting for came! YAY!

Also... I've found a new hobby. My aunt Deborah used to make these bows made out of ribbon for my cousin Lindsey when she was little. Well, my cousin Kristy from Illinois wanted to make some for her daughter, Shayna, so she asked Deborah how to make them. I was there when this conversation took place and so I decided that I wanted to try to make some because the ones that Kristy made were so darn cute! So... I went out and bought the materials and I love this new hobby! They are so much fun!

I've also made a red one and a light purple one... If any of you are interested in some or want to give some away as gifts.. let me know. I'm thinking about selling some for some side money for really cheap.

I have a funny story from work today. This four year old girl came through my line with her mom and I was talking to this girl and she was asking me some questions. She first asked me if I was married. I told her I wasn't. She then asked, "Well don't you have any kids at least?" And I told her I didn't because I wasn't married. And then she says, "Well... when you do get married I will be your flower girl!" I laughed my butt off! It was soooo funny! Her mom was laughing pretty hard too. She kinda gave us both funny looks and then she said, "Well when you find out your getting married, call me." HA HA! How freaking cute is that?! I thought it was pretty good.

"What the 'L'?"

Funny story about my name tag from work!
So... the letters on my name tag should all be capital letters. The bottom of my "L" has been ripped off due to my brutal work situation (ha ha ha!). Anyways, this cute 90 year old man came through my line. This was the conversation:

Cute Man: Now is your name Sheiby or Shelby?

Me: Its Shelby. The bottom of my L has been ripped off from all the lifting that I do.

Cute Man: Oh, I just wanted to make sure. You know, I could ask you what the 'L' happened!

Me: HA HA HA that's a good one! I never would have thought of that! How clever.

Cute Man: Well, you know when your as old as I am you have a lot of time to think about things like that!
HA HA! I thought that was soooo cute! It made my day when it happened, and so I wanted to share it with all of you hoping that it would make your day too!

So... last night was Taco Tuesday at Del Taco again. I think Taco Tuesday is going to become a tradition. Cody and I went with some of our friends from work, Chris, Kenzie and Brandon. There was NO choking this week, thank goodness! And, Cody only ordered 6 tacos this week instead of 15. While Chris was in line getting his food and while Cody and I were waiting for Kenz, Cody saw my camera in my purse and decided to take some pictures. They turned out to be so much fun! I kinda wish that we would have gotten some of Kenz and Chris and Brandon too, but maybe next week.
Next week I'll get some fun ones with Kenz and Chris and everyone else who goes. Who knew that Del Taco would be the place to hang out on Tuesdays? Even if you don't go to get food, you might as well go for the crazy fun and the non-stop laughter!

Sam's Club Is Brutal

Work is brutal. I always get bruises and cuts and more bruises all up and down my arm, on my hands, on my fingers, etc. Wanna see the most recent one I got on Saturday?

It's worse then it looks (not in a bragging kind of way...). I got it by trying to grab a 50 lb. bag of rice off the bottom of the basket while transferring. I couldn't quite get my arm all the way out from underneath the basket while I was standin up and it got scraped pretty good. It stings... still and when I got it, it made my stomach kinda hurt for a second... thats how deep it got into the skin. My manager was so cute... she was so worried about it and everytime she walked past me she said, "Oh honey, is your arm ok?" It was bruised yesterday but today its not bad.

I got a new hat! Ok... I love hats. I always have, I just never have boughten any because I couldn't ever wear them to school so I figured it was a waste. Well, I went on saturday night and bought an MLB Angels hat (because I love the Angels!). Its so cute! I love it! I wore it all night Saturday night when I went to the movies with my friends, Kenzie and Emily, they thought it was Cody's hat... ha ha ha! It is a flat-brimmed hat. I kinda can't do the normal kind, only on some hats I can pull that off with. There are a few cute hats I like where the brim is normal but for the most part my hats have to be flat-brimmed.

Anyways, nothing else is really new or going on. Today is my day off... which is kind of exciting even though I don't really know what to do. Ha ha!
